7/9 & 7/16 - Writing An Effective Resume
The business case for effective resumes
"The only purpose of a resume is to get an interview. It's your image that gets you the job" Todays's competitive work environment requires us to be in a constant state of self-marketing and identifying the next strategic step to advance our careers. Career satisfaction occurs when we understand the needs of business and how these demands align with our skill sets. Whether you're in transition or looking to advance internally, you will learn how to:
- understand the world of work (and where the jobs are)
- develop your "elevator pitch"
- convert your strengths to accomplishments
- when to use chronological and functional resumes
- develop a job search marketing plan
Bring your laptop - this is a hands-on workshop.

A weak image is a liability that can cost you lost opportunities and can drive you out of business or lose your job. Your image is like the weather. People notice when it is extremely good or extremely bad. Bring your materials for image critique.

8/6 - Being A Bi-Cultural Filipino / Cross-Cultural Dynamics
Living & Doing Business in the U.S.
"While perceptions may not be the ultimate truth, they are what people use to make decisions."
- Breaking the Glass Ceiling
Values and Culture Statements are those actions and behaviors that we think are important. They guide our day-to-day choices. As Filipinos adapt to the U.S. culture, some of our Filipino values change and evolve. Others remain constant throughout our lives. When our values and culture statements don't match our adopted culture or our organization's values, we often feel stressed, out of sync and burned out.
Clarifying and prioritizing our values and culture statements make it easier to determine our career choices and priorities. When our values and culture statements are aligned, we have more energy in making important decisions at work, at home and in relationships.
"If you are operating in a globalized economy, perceptions of other participants matter much more - whether they are right or wrong. You have to take those perceptions and make them an important input into your decision making."

8/13 - Health & Well-Being
Developing a relationship with yourself
This is an important health issue for Filipina women because there is very little discussion about it in our community.
- How can we be involved in healthy relationships with others if we don't have a good relationship with ourselves?
- How can we participate in community or environmental renewal if we don't have the energy?
- Will our homes be places of joy or cages?
- Do we fully understand the implications of stress or do we ignore it? What are we doing about it?
A discussion of myths and facts from a cultural perspective regarding physical and mental health, attitudes about aging, dignity and self-worth, esteem as a social dimension in which others hold us, and opportunities for action - looking out for yourself!
